Speaking to investors ROCHDALE boss Brian Barry-Murphy insists his young players will not be overawed at Old Trafford tonight.
The League One outfit travel to the ‘Theatre of Dreams’ for only the second competitive meeting between the two sides.
The first was in the FA Cup in 1986 when United won 2-0.
But Barry-Murphy has no doubts that his side will do themselves justice 33 years on.
“In every game we play, we’re very respectful of the opposition and the problems they’re going to cause us,” said the Irishman.
“We’re not naive enough to think we’re going to have possession for prolonged periods at a place like Old Trafford, but we definitely want to adhere to what we are as a group and what we want to display.
“That will be being committed and courageous in the way we play the game, and that’s been constant since this group of players have been together.
“Whatever moments we have on Wednesday, we will try to display those characteristics throughout.
“There’s traits and similarities between a lot of their young players who played the other night and our own young players.
“So I think it’s hugely exciting to see where our young players stand in relation to those players.
“Our young lads have come through a series of years of dedication and hard work to get to this point and deserve that chance to test themselves against some of the world’s best opposition.”
