WARREN GATLAND gave Wales the green light to party after they edged a Tokyo thriller.

Dragons boss Gatland saw his team make it two wins from two in Japan with a crucial victory over their bogey side which leaves them in control of their World Cup destiny.

With games against Fiji and Uruguay to come, Wales are virtually certain to finish top of Pool D and move into the opposite half of the knock-out stage draw to England and reigning champions New Zealand.

Gatland said: “I said to the boys I would like to see them celebrate. They deserve to.

“It was a tough game and a from ALEX BYWATER in Tokyo great win. They deserve to pat each other on the back and say well done.

“It went right to the wire. We were under a lot of pressure in that second half, but there were some key turnovers towards the end of the game.

“Our composure and our fitness levels were really good and we soaked up a lot of pressure. The pool is in our own hands.”

Winger George North lost control and kissed Alan Wyn Jones – who broke Wales’ cap record against Australia by making his 130th appearance – as Gatland’s players went wild at the final whistle.

“After that performance emotions were high and Alun Wyn is a passionate man – he’s bigger than me as well. What a day,” said North. “What a day.”

Jones said: “I think George’s wife is safe, put it that way.

“It’s important you share those moments with players, but not always like that.

“I’m sure there will be some memes made out of it!”

Despite the result, North has urged his team not to get carried away.

“It’s a big result for us, but I don’t think we can get too carried away,” said the giant wing. “We’ve got Fiji coming next and we’ve got a decent spell before that.”

Tries from Hadleigh Parkes and man of the match Gareth Davies, and the boot of substitute fly-half Rhys Patchell, guided Wales home despite a second half Wallaby fightback.

Australia recovered from 23-8 down at half time to move within a point thanks to scores from Adam Ashley-Cooper, Dane Haylett-Petty and captain Michael Hooper.

But with the scores at 26-25, in Wales favour, Patchell – who finished with 14 points – nervlessly landed a late penalty to ease the pressure as Wales held on for a famous win.
