Spain’s tourism bailout

- ■ by ANTHONY THROWER

SPANISH travel firms hit by Thomas Cook’s collapse are to get a £266million bailout from the country’s government.

Tourism minister Reyes Maroto announced a rescue package to stop hotels and resorts going bust.

He said: “One of our priorities after the bankruptcy of Thomas Cook is to strengthen air connectivity, especially in the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands.”

Meanwhile, the failed travel giant’s axed workers, handed in petitions to 10 Downing Street calling for a full inquiry into Thomas Cook’s collapse and for its bosses to pay back their bonuses.

The Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Select Committee has now launched an inquiry into the collapse and the Government has set up a taskforce to deal with the issue.

British Airline Pilots’ Association general secretary Brian Strutton said: “Staff at Thomas Cook have been left high and dry by the directors.” THREE dogs rip apart a pet cat – after being deliberately set upon it by their evil owner.

Mark Cuthbert was jailed for 10 months for animal abuse, including buying cats online to be killed.

Inspectors visited his home and found the Patterdale Terriers.

And the 42-year-old’s phone contained footage of the dogs attacking live cats and a rat in a trap, along with other images of dead and bloody badgers.

The dogs were removed and taken to a secure kennel.

The two older dogs had multiple injuries, some quite recent, consistent with fighting with a badger.

Cuthbert, pictured, of Ayr, admitted two charges at Ayr Sheriff Court. In a statement from the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, an undercover officer said: “This is a truly horrific case of animal cruelty where we suspect dozens of animals have suffered at the hands of Mark Cuthbert.

“His inhumane treatment of animals is completely unacceptable.”
