Boly’s brilliance gives Nuno massive boost
WOLVES pulled off sensational smash and grab to seal a dramatic win in Istanbul. a
Big defender Willy Boly ghosted into the box in the dying seconds of stoppage time to get their Europa League campaign back on track.
It looked like being a hard-earned draw as the four minutes of added time ticked away but with seconds left Boly sealed all three points.
The Ivory Coast star, who had been brilliant all night, latched on to a Ruben Neves ball over the top and steered it into the bottom corner.
But boss Nuno Espirito Santo (inset) insists that he wants more from his team.
He said: “We have a lot of things to improve. Our performances have to be better so we’ll celebrate for two minutes and then concentrate on Manchester City on Sunday.
“Obviously I’m happy with the win but we must find why some of the boys didn’t play so well.
“It’s a good win but we need more moments of talent.”
The Turkish side wasted a number of chances and must have thought they had blown it a few minutes before Boly’s goal, when Romain Saiss found the net only to be ruled offside. Nuno added: “I’ve not seen it but I’ve heard that effort was a valid goal. The referee decided otherwise and we have to accept that.”
One Besiktas effort struck the post off Conor Coady’s arm, and Caner Erkin ballooned an effort way over from 12 yards out.
Domagoj Vida headed wide from six yards and Boly got in a superb sliding block to snuff out a chance for Umut Nayir.
Nuno’s men sailed through the qualifying stages with six straight wins but are finding life tougher in the group stages.
Adama Traore’s introduction gave the home side a bit more to think about, but Wolves still found it hard to create any serious chances.
