Old comic lays into Peter Kay

COMEDY legend Alexei Sayle has slammed Peter Kay for his obsession with money.

The veteran comic claims he takes profits from tickets, booze and even parking when he goes on tour.

He was joking about the differences between his generation and the next in his BBC podcast, Alexei Sayle’s Imaginary Sandwich Bar.

And the stand-up had a live audience in fits as he claimed the Phoenix Nights hero takes cash from all over the shop.

Sayle, 67, said: “One thing we could never have realised when my generation of stand-up revolutionised comedy was what a huge business it would become.

“Because we weren’t motivated by money.

“For example, when Peter Kay does his big arena shows he not only gets a big slice of the ticket prices but also a piece of the bar take.

“And also in a two-mile radius of the venue he gets 50% of the parking revenue.”

The Car Share star says he deserves the extra cash from the drivers as he is the reason they have made the journey in the first place, according to Sayle.

The claims come days after it was revealed Kay increased his fortune to £32million in 2018 despite being away from the public eye for a year. Kay last toured the country in 2012 but cancelled his 2017 dates due to “unforeseen family circumstances”.

Last month he announced Phoenix Nights will be shown on the big screen to raise cash for Cancer Research UK. A representative for Peter Kay was last night approached for comment.
