GIVE IT TO ’EM L Jones urges troops to meet fire with fire

- ■

ENGLAND are primed for a macho showdown with Argentina today as they chase the win to guarantee them a place in the knockout stages.

Coach Eddie Jones is expecting a brutal approach from the fired-up Pumas who are out of the tournament if they lose. And he is demanding his team meet it head on.

“When you play against Argentina, it’s a test of manlihood,” said Jones. “To beat Argentina you have to take them from NEIL SQUIRES in Tokyo

up front – in the scrum, maul, ruck attack, ruck defence. That’s where it will be won.

“We know Argentina play with a lot of pride and a lot of passion and that will be multiplied by the fact they are in a game that is very important to them.

“It is pretty clear how they will play by the side they have picked. It will be a real test of each team’s courage.”

Argentina stand-off Benjamin Urdapilleta says it is do-or-die for the Pumas after their 23-21 loss to France. “This game is to make up for what happened in the French game,” he said.

“This is a crucial game with lots of pressure. We should use this as motivation. If we put in a very good performance, it will make for an amazing game.”

Skipper Pablo Matera added: “I don’t know about England, how they feel about rugby. I know how we do.

“And we know this game is important for us to keep on going in the World Cup. I know England have many good players and it’s going to be fun to play against them.”

England have beaten Argentina in their last nine meetings but this is their first true test of the tournament.

“The team are looking fit, fast, brutal and ready to go. They know what to do, now they just have to go out there and do it,” said Jones.

“But it’s a bit like a tea bag isn’t it? You don’t know good it is until you put it in hot water.”
