FLORES ADMITS HE’S AT AN ALL-TIME LOW
QUIQUE SANCHEZ FLORES is in unchartered territory with Watford propping up the Premier League.
Less than a month into his second spell at Vicarage Road, Flores admits today’s home game with Sheffield United looks like a must-win game.
And although he is used to working at clubs facing mountainous odds, the Hornets boss said: “I have lived for 16 years with the responsibility of being a coach and I’m not used to being at the bottom. I don’t think I have ever been at the bottom with any team in my life.
“The best way is to work hard, try to win some games and then, maybe in a few weeks, we can see how we have improved.
“I have a responsibility to the club, my staff will relay to the players how responsible we want them to be and we will create the atmosphere we need to win.
“We are like the actors in a play – we are working for the fans, not the other way round. We have a responsibility to them.
“The big difference, from my last time here, is that four years ago I had two months to prepare and analyse everything.
“The team was under control – but in this moment, there are many details where the team is not under control. We have to live with this situation for the moment, but we can still win if we take all the right pieces to solve the puzzle.”
Despite admitting he was now preparing his side for “finals” rather than matches, Flores (right) refused to entertain talk of a relegation battle.
That is despite his side having just two points from seven games and being the lowest scorers in the Premier League with the worst goal difference.
He said: “I don’t want to use this word relegation – at the end of the season it is there for three teams in May, but the dynamic of a team can change in one month.
“We can’t think about anything but the next match.”
