Pump up the volume
A BUMPER harvest of pumpkins is ready for this year’s Halloween.
Ideal weather conditions have led to a bountiful crop to mark the spooky night on October 31.
Hannah Stewart, technical manager for pumpkins at supermarket Waitrose said: “We have had a warm summer, the right amount of rain and a dry September, ensuring a plentiful and quality supply.
“We are very excited about Halloween this year.”
Waitrose says the abundance of pumpkins means that the range on offer to shoppers will be bigger and the squashes themselves larger than ever.
As well as two sizes of the traditional carving variety, the supermarket is also selling naturally white “ghost pumpkins” and mini “munchkins” that can hold a tea light or form a decorative centrepiece.
