SNACKMASTERS: Channel 4, 9.15pm THEY’RE making Monster Munch tonight on Channel 4. Pickled onion flavour, since you ask.

No, not on THE GREAT BRITISH BAKE OFF (8pm) – for that lot it’s something called Festivals Week, whatever that’s supposed to mean – but on this week’s SNACKMASTER (9.15pm).

Host Fred Sirieix, who last week persuaded two rival chefs to make their own profoundly unpleasant looking replicas of KitKat, has persuaded another pair to replicate one of Britain’s most popular savoury snacks. That means trying to recreate not just Monster Munch’s look, colour and flavour but also something called its ‘mouthfeel’, an expression that somehow makes me feel a bit queasy.

So, after weeks of faffing around with different recipes, which of these two will come closest to wowing the panel, made up of people who make this product for a living? It’s going to be close.

“He’s lost his toes,” one judge remarks when picking up one of the chefs’ efforts. Be honest, that’s a line we’ve rarely heard from a reality show panel, although I dare say it’ll crop up more often once Channel 5’s Frostbite Challenge gets underway.

Elsewhere, Sara ‘Cupid’ Cox has a bit of a job on her hands in LOVE IN THE COUNTRYSIDE (8pm, BBC2). Lonely vet George, 24, who lives in Wales, has serious self-confidence issues. “I don’t really have much faith in myself,” he says.

He also says his love life, or lack of it, is “a bit of an amusement to my friends”.

So maybe Sara can get him some new friends while she’s at it.
