Villa hunt ‘racists’
ASTON VILLA have blasted “toxic” footage of their fans singing a racist song about star Marvelous Nakamba. The Premier League club has asked for fans to identify those who were involved, saying they are “disgusted and appalled”.
A video shows a group of Villa’s fans singing about the club’s Zimbabwean midfielder Nakamba (above) in the
influential players for their shock 1-0 defeat at Newcastle on Sunday, including Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial, Victor Lindelof, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw.
Marcus Rashford (right) is one of those players looking short on confidence and took to social media yesterday to apologise to fans.
He said: “You can’t hide in football and the last few weeks simply haven’t been good enough.
“As a United fan myself that hurts – and you deserve better.”
Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward handed Solskjaer a public vote of confidence last month and insisted he would be given time.
But Woodward and his fellow directors were alarmed by David De Gea’s attack on his team-mates following the loss on Tyneside.
To make matters worse Pogba remains unsettled at Old Trafford and is expected to push for a move to Real Madrid in the January transfer window.
Solskjaer must now rally his troops to face league leaders Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday
week.
