SUGAR: Spurs was worst buy of my life
LORD Sugar reckons his worst ever investment was buying Tottenham Hotspur.
The entrepreneur says owning the struggling north London football club made him “miserable”.
The Apprentice host said: “Tottenham Hotspur – the club cost me £8m and I sold for £25m in 2007, so it wasn’t a bad investment financially.
“Some might argue I should have held onto it, because Spurs are worth £1billion now, but my decade as chairman wasn’t ■ by ANDREW JAMESON a great period for me and my family.
“It made me a bit of a miserable sod.
“Only now I’ve been out of it for so many years have I become the charming individual you see on TV.”
Lord Sugar bought the club in 1991 but was controversial among fans.
In his nine years as chairman Spurs only won one trophy – the FA Cup in 1991 – and under performed in the Premier League.
LORD Sugar said his worst investment was buying Spurs because it made him miserable.
The current owners must be feeling the same way!
