Her sad ex can’t move in

-

MY girlfriend is asking if her ex-husband can come and stay with us for a while.

He’s fallen on hard times having argued with his family and ex-business partner.

He’s unemployed and broke. She swears he’s no threat to me as he has a new girlfriend.

My girl says he’s very handy and will pay his way doing odd jobs.

He’ll also cook and provide free food from his mate’s allotment.

Every time I refuse she accuses me of being uncharitable. I suspect she’s already promised him a bed behind my back. How do I halt this outrage?

JANE SAYS: Your girlfriend is making a request too far.

Why would you want her ex-husband under your roof?

It’s sad he finds himself cast adrift, but how is he her problem when they’ve divorced?

What about building bridges with his family or staying with his new girlfriend?

Tell her you’ll talk to him directly if she doesn’t want to. He has to hear your girl has made a promise she can’t keep.

You’re not being cruel, but it would be inappropriate for him to share your space when you and your girl have your own life now.
