Dele has food for thought

- ■ by JOHN CROSS

DELE ALLI has hired a nutritionist in a bid to combat the muscle injuries that have plagued him.

The 23-year-old Spurs midfielder is now on a strict diet after hurting his left hamstring four times in the last 18 months.

The injuries saw him miss the start of this season and large chunks of last year, on the back of a gruelling World Cup.

In a bid to tackle the problem he has gone a a high-protein diet, is drinking more water, has cut out sugar and is generally watching everything he eats to try to make a positive impact. He has also taken up yoga.

England boss Gareth Southgate left him out of his squad for the Euro 2020 qualifiers with Czech Republic and Bulgaria because he has just returned from injury.

He was not expecting to be involved for the back-to-back away trips and Southgate has called him to reassure

(inset) said that if it happens, we speak to the player and if he’s not happy, we come off together.

“It’s a team thing. Don’t isolate one person, we’re a whole team. If it happens to one of us, it happens to all of us.”

Boss Gareth Southgate has previously said England will follow UEFA’s three-step protocol and report any abuse to the referee who, after a warning, could then take the teams off the pitch.

But Abraham said: SINOBO STADIUM (PRAGUE) FRIDAY 7.45PM ENGLAND Czech Rep Kosovo Montenegro 5 Bulgaria 4400 19 4 530298 5221 1010 0233 13 502 35 11 12 9 8 2 2 him there are no problems and wants him back as soon as possible.

He has also scaled back his commercial activities, with the only one in the diary requested by Spurs to promote Hugo Boss and the last adidas commercial was filmed during the summer.

Alli’s Spurs’ team-mate Christian Eriksen insists his refusal to sign a new deal is not contributing to the club’s poor form.

The midfielder, 27, has less than a year left on his contract and can speak to foreign clubs in January ahead of leaving on a free next summer.

Defenders Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld are in identical situations leading to widespread accusations of a lack of commitment.

But Eriksen said:

“It doesn’t matter at all. Everyone is professional and in all clubs there is talk of players going away.

“That side of the matter has no bearing on how we have performed so far this season.

“If I took all the rumours to me, I would float on a cloud. But I know that it can’t all be true.”
