QUADRILATERAL has “more to prove” to justify her position at the head of the 1000 Guineas betting as Roger Charlton’s filly defends her unbeaten record at Newmarket tomorrow.

The daughter of Frankel, 10-1 market leader for the Rowley Mile Classic next May after two victories at Newbury – the latter by nine lengths last month – faces eight rivals as she steps up to the highest level for the Fillies’ Mile.

“She’s always been a very nice individual and her progression has been good, winning those two races at Newbury in different styles,” Lord Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager to Quadilateral’s owner, Prince Khalid Abdullah, said yesterday.

“On her first run, she was looking very green and immature and then ran on very well to get up and win, whereas the next time she travelled very smoothly and then put a lot of distance between herself and a solid field.

“She’s got a bit more to prove – she’s got to prove why she is the Guineas favourite.

“Doing that in a graduation event is not the same as a Group One but it certainly was incredibly encouraging.

“It’s a good place to see where we are and it gives her a chance to have a look at Newmarket.”

Among the opposition to Quadrilateral, Ladbrokes’ 9-4 favourite, is Aidan O’Brien’s Love (3-1), winner of the Group One Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh on her latest start, and the unbeaten Cayenne Pepper, 11-4 with the Magic Sign to give Jessica Harrington a third two-year-old fillies’ Group One triumph in the space of 13 days.

“All the horses you least want to turn up are there!” added Grimthorpe.
