Zachery Ryan ordered terrified staff to hand over cash while wearing a mask and brandishing an eight-inch blade.
As customers fled, two officers who had popped in for a coffee tackled the thug, Tasering and disarming him in seconds.
The 28-year-old manager of the Coventry branch thanked them, saying all he could remember from that night was “the light glinting off the blade” before the clown pressed the knife to his stomach.
He said: “I turned to go back to the office, to buy some time. But the moment I turned my back I heard a loud crack. It was the sound of the police officer’s Taser.”
Ryan, 41, was jailed for five years by a judge at Warwick Crown Court after admitting robbery.
