Stores sinking the pub

-

SUPERMARKETS sold 700,000 more pints of beer than pubs in the 12 months to March this year.

A total of 4.3million pints were bought in shops during the period, found the report by brewery and pub chain Marston’s.

Many drinkers are trying to recreate the bar experience at home with sales of mini kegs up 62%.

The change has been dramatic with inns selling just 12,365 barrels in 2017 compared to 23,352 in 2000.

Meriam Hough, of Marston’s, said: “Marston’s will be focusing on answering the changing needs of the consumer. It is important to understand how lifestyle trends will affect future innovation in beer.”
