Flores keeps faith in flops
QUIQUE Sanchez Flores insists he is not crazy for thinking Watford are on the brink of turning things around.
The Hornets boss admits that he is in unchartered territory as he attempts to reverse his side’s disastrous start.
Watford are bottom of the Premier League and still seeking a first league victory of the season.
That makes today’s visit of Bournemouth the latest must-win game.
And Flores said: “Bournemouth is a very important game, a key game because we have been waiting for this win for a long time.
“The last one was last season – a long time ago.
“Maybe I am crazy, but I can feel that first win coming closer.”
Long-term injuries to strikers Troy Deeney and Danny Welbeck have added to the sense of crisis at Vicarage Road.
But after watching his side crash 8-0 at Manchester City in his second game in charge, Flores has overseen signs of progress.
They managed a first clean sheet against Sheffield United before the international break and were arguably robbed of victory by VAR at Spurs last Saturday.
Flores added: “The point at Tottenham was important but the feeling among the players was more important.
“We know this is a difficult time, a crisis but we are positive.”
Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe goes into the game wishing he had a team of Nathan Akes.
The centre-half, 24 has been the Cherries’ star man since a £20m move from Chelsea in 2017.
The Blues have a £40m buy-back option and Howe said: “Itd be easier if I had more players of his mentality and the way he conducts himself.”
“He is an absolute winner. He sets the tone for the other players.”
