Sol puts boot in on club
FORMER Macclesfield Town boss Sol Campbell wants the club wound up, a judge heard yesterday.
Club bosses owed a “very large” amount of tax.
Tax officials have asked for it to be wound up and Campbell, who is owed £180,000, supported that application, lawyers told Judge Catherine Addy.
But at a special hearing in London she said Macclesfield should get time to clear debts and said the case would be reconsidered on December 18.
Raj Arumugam, who represented HM Revenue and Customs, asked for a winding up order.
He did not say how much tax Macclesfield owed but the judge said the sum was “very large”.
Philip Currie, who represented Campbell, said Town owed his client around £182,000. He said the former England star also wanted the League Two outfit wound up.
The Cheshire club was charged by the EFL with misconduct last month over its failure to pay staff.
Players have threatened to strike before Saturday’s game against Crewe.
