But are they harbouring a terrible secret? The tension builds beautifully in this icy thriller. STARGATE ★★★ (1994) 5STAR, 11.35pm An Egyptologist (James Spader) and a soldier (Kurt Russell) head an expedition through a portal to an alien planet that looks a lot like ancient Egypt. After impressing its downtrodden inhabitants, the earthmen spark a rebellion against the planet’s tyrannical ruler. This rousing sci-fi sparked three spin-off TV series.
