Jesus is talked up
GABRIEL JESUS says that a quiet word of advice from fellow Brazilian Fernandinho helped him break his goal drought.
The Manchester City striker ended a barren run of 10 matches for club and country with two superb strikes in the 4-1 defeat of Burnley on Tuesday.
Jesus said: “I had a talk with Fernandinho. He has helped me a lot.
‘‘He has always been very important since I arrived at the club, giving me advice.
“The day before the game we had a nice chat. He told me to remain calm.
‘‘I was calm, more confident and I managed to score two goals. That was very important to me.”
Jesus admitted the added pressure of replacing the injured Sergio Aguero at City was getting to him.
He added: “Fighting for a position with Sergio Aguero, who scores goals in every game, then having a run of 10 games without scoring a goal is difficult for me.
“Negative thoughts cross your mind and that affects your mood. I’m a person who shows a lot the mood through my face and behaviour.
“He [Fernandinho] perceived it and came to talk to me.
“I had a chat with him and it helped me a lot”
