DONALD Trump’s political en- emies are pressing ahead with a bid to impeach him.
“In America, no-one is above the law,” said Nancy Pelosi, speaker of the US House of Representatives.
She announced the House will proceed with articles of impeachment, meaning Mr Trump could become only the third US president in history to face trial.
Ms Pelosi said: “Our democracy is what is at stake.” She added that the facts of Mr Trump’s alleged wrongdoing involving Ukraine “are uncontested”.
The 79-year-old said: “The president abused his power for his own personal benefit at the risk of US national security.”
Mr Trump is accused of withholding US military aid as he pressured Ukraine to investigate his political rival Joe Biden and his son Hunter.
Once the articles of impeachment have been drawn up, the House will need to vote over whether Trump to trial.
Moments before Ms Pelosi’s announcement, Mr Trump taunted Democrats. He said: “They have no impeachment case and are demeaning our country.
“But nothing matters to them, they have gone crazy.
