Whyte given the all-clear
DILLIAN WHYTE has been cleared to continue his career after UK Anti-Doping put an adverse finding in a drugs test down to a “contamination event”.
UKAD last night confirmed Whyte provided a sample on June 20 which had traces of two metabolites of a steroid. But the drug-testing body has cleared the British heavyweight of any wrongdoing.
Whyte was never suspended after a National Anti-Doping Panel allowed him to face Oscar Rivas in London on July 20.
He was already set to face Polish veteran Mariusz Wach tonight in Saudi Arabia.
A statement from UKAD said: “There is nothing in Mr Whyte’s longitudinal urinary profile to suggest that he has used steroids.
“The levels of the metabolites found in Mr Whyte’s 20 June 2019 sample were extremely low.
“He had provided a urine sample to VADA (Voluntary Anti-Doping Association) on 17 June 2019 which returned a negative result, including for the metabolites in question.
“He provided several other doping control samples to UKAD and VADA between 20 June and 20 July
2019 – all of which tested negative. In light of the above points, the trace amounts of metabolites found in the 20 June 2019 sample are consistent with an isolated contamination event and they are not suggestive of doping.
“UKAD is satisfied that the presence of the very low amounts of metabolites in his 20 June 2019 sample was not caused by any fault, negligence or wrongdoing on Mr Whyte’s part.
“And, given the circumstances, could not have affected the fight between Mr Whyte and Mr Rivas.”
Whyte, 31, weighed in at a career-heaviest 19st 5lb for his clash with Wach. If he wins he will be reinstated in the WBC rankings and back in line for a shot at champion Deontay Wilder.
