Storm will wreak havoc at election

BRITAIN is set to be battered by 100mph Storm Brendan tomorrow as election week turns wild.

A 1,500mile-wide weatherbomb will trigger 40ft waves and result in travel chaos on the roads and trains.

It will be the second storm in three days after Storm Atiyah struck southern England yesterday.

Hundreds of homes in the south west were left without power last night and commuters faced 80mph gales this morning as the fierce front heads up the country. And there will be no let-up as

Brendan roars in, bringing thundery showers Thursday’s General Election.

Former BBC forecaster

Michael Fish of Netweather said: “It’s kitchen sink weather ahead – including on election day.”

Winds of up to 60mph are expected in England, rising to 100mph in the

Scottish mountains.

Met Office forecaster

Luke Miall said: “A windy

Tuesday everywhere will see 50–60mph gusts in the south west, the north west and Scotland, with 70mph possible in north-west

Scotland, over 100mph on

Cairngorm, and 40-45mph in other parts of England.

“There will also be pretty heavy rain everywhere.

“Wednesday looks blustery and election day will be a wet one in the south, with blustery showers in the north, then turning colder still by the weekend with wintry showers on higher ground in northern England, Scotland and possibly north Wales.”

Temperatures will dip to -5C this weekend thanks to a chill from Canada, with snow threatening the Midlands.

Ex-BBC and Met Office forecaster John Hammond warned: “Mid-month could be wild.

“A strong jet stream looks like bringing a series of potent weather systems.”
