Andy’s still looking on Brightside

- ■ by ANDREW JAMESON

CORRIE’S Andy Whyment missed out on being crowned king of the Jungle last night – but is now being lined up for a lucrative record deal.

The 38-year-old captured the nation’s hearts with his down-to-earth personality and love for I’m A Celebrity.

He was odds-on favourite going into the final but in shock result came second to Jacqueline Jossa.

Getting emotional last night, Andy, who belted out The Killers’ Mr Brightside during his time on the show, said it was amazing to be liked as himself and not dimwit Kirk, who he has played on Corrie for half of his life.

The tearful dad-of-two said: “I can’t believe it and I’m getting emotional I’m so chuffed, it’s just nice to know people are voting for me, the person I am.”

Andy made the final despite not being one of the original campmates, entering late with ex-EastEnder Cliff Parisi.

And music label bosses are ready to reward him with a deal.

The Corrie star has never been shy about his vocal talents. He was a successful busker in Manchester as a teenager, performing Oasis covers.

A music industry boss told the Daily Star: “Andy’s already a big star and the Jungle has made him even bigger. He could definitely sell records.

“Don’t be surprised if he gets snapped up quickly. There’s a rich history of soap stars making it big in the charts.

“Think of the success Jason Donovan or Shane Richie has had.”

Andy had a good run on reality show Soapstar Superstar on ITV in 2006.

The actor also regularly belts out favourites such as Mustang Sally and Kings Of Leon’s Sex On Fire at charity events.

But don’t expect success to change him.

He has always said he would shun Hollywood if movie bosses ever came knocking as he loves Corrie too much.

He said: “Hollywood just doesn’t interest me. I love Manchester too much.”
