FRENCH fries – the staple of America’s calorific diet – are under threat due to a poor potato harvest this year.

Brace yourself for ketchup mountains and breakouts of thinness.

A GIRL of 12 was allegedly knocked unconscious and had spiders put on her face while she lay motionless.

Her family claim two female pupils, both 12, from Oldfield School in Bath, Somerset, were suspended and one aged 14 expelled following the incident. The school said that “appropriate sanctions” had been imposed.

The girl’s brother said his sister “was followed home” and ordered to fight one of the girls or be beaten up.

A MUM was stabbed to death trying to break up a fight after a road duel, witnesses have claimed.

Levi Davis, 25, was knifed in the street yards from her home after a car and van crashed. Witnesses said the mum-of-two tried to play peacemaker between two men following the smash.

Paramedics were called but Levi, who had been in one of the vehicles, died at the scene.

A 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

He was last night in hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries and another man, also 27, was being questioned on suspicion of his attempted murder.

A 13-year-old boy quizzed over

Levi’s death was yesterday released and will face no further action.

Police said all those involved in the incident in Rushden, Northants, on Saturday night knew each other and it was “not a random attack”.

Supt Dennis Murray said: “My understanding is that two vehicles were involved in an altercation.

“A 25-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. My heart goes out to the family.

“What we don’t know is exactly what part the two vehicles had in this.

“We believe the perpetrators appear to be known to each other.

“Those two cars had an altercation before they came to a stop. There was a crash when the vehicles came together.

“My understanding was she was injured when she was outside the vehicle. We believe this is an isolated incident.

“Our officers are working to ensure that people are kept safe as

I am sure people will be scared.”

A friend of Levi, who according to

Facebook had worked for the British

Army and as a disability support staff worker, said: “What I’ve been told is two lads were getting into a stabby fight. “She tried to get in the middle and she got stabbed. It’s awful.” Another pal said Levi had recently broken up with her partner and it had “hit her pretty hard”. They added: “She was a wonderful mum and one-in-a-million. I feel so sorry for her two little girls.” One neighbour said they heard a “loud bang” and screams. Pattamaea Kuttppa, 77, who lives nearby, said: “I heard a big thud. I thought it was a car accident.” Last night forensics teams were examining a £500,000 detached house close to the scene.
