Lee looking to do the double over his old pals
STEVE LEE got one over his old club on Sunday and is now looking for a repeat tomorrow night in the first leg of the Challenge Cup quarter-final.
The Guildford star helped Flames to a 3-2 Elite League win and admits he’s glad that he has already gone through the experience of returning to Nottingham for the first time.
Great Britain ace Lee said: “I’m happy to have got that first game back there out of the way and I think it will help me on Wednesday. It was strange going back to the rink, especially after spending 10 years at Nottingham.
“It’s quite nerve-wracking. It was weird on the bus trip going into Nottingham but it was definitely an exciting occasion and I got a warm reception, which was great.”
Lee, 29, made his Panthers debut in 2009 and skippered the side before moving back to Surrey this season.
He added: “I’m happy here in Guildford and I think we have a good opportunity to challenge for silverware.
“For me now Nottingham is just another team and we have to beat them to get into the semi-final.
“There’s something big on the line but we will be looking to go there and trying to win again.”
■ MILTON KEYNES have turned their back on a swift return to the top flight.
Lightning bosses were invited to apply to rejoin the Elite League after dropping to the National League with a change of ownership this year.
In an statement the club’s five-member board confirmed they will stay in the second tier, saying: “We recognise this cannot please all our fans but have done this with the best interests of the club at heart.”
