Silva’s crown up Fo grabs

- ■ by GIDEON BROOKS

D ZAGREB (4-3-3): MAN CITY (4-3-3):

PEP GUARDIOLA has challenged Phil Foden to show he is the rightful heir to David Silva at Man City.

The Etihad boss insisted he had no doubts the England Under-21 midfielder has what it takes to fill the void when Silva leaves in the summer.

But Guardiola will tell the teenager to show Europe his talent in their final group stage game against Dinamo Zagreb tonight.

Asked if Foden, 19, can slip into Silva’s

■ shoes, Guardiola said: “That is our wish. David is a legend but we believe Phil can do it. He’s growing from last season. In some departments he can improve but his development is perfect.”

Foden has been frustrated at limited chances in the Premier League. Yet Guardiola says he will get the minutes on the pitch to become a first-team regular. He added: “He is up against Rodri, David Silva, Ilkay Gundogan, Kevin De Bruyne, so it’s difficult. But we have trust.”
