Maddi’s a stayer

- by JAMES NURSEY

JAMES MADDISON is set to land a bumper new deal at Leicester.

The high-flying Foxes are desperate to keep their star man away from Manchester United.

Leicester have seen Harry Maguire, Riyad Mahrez and N’Golo Kante leave in recent seasons, although United, Manchester City and Chelsea have all had to spend big to get them.

Maddison has been in storming form this season, helping Leicester become Liverpool’s nearest challengers in the league and forcing his way into the England squad.

Last week they secured the future of boss Brendan

Rodgers on a new contract until 2025 worth £40m, amid interest from Arsenal. Now they have turned their attentions to tying down Maddison and defender Caglar Soyuncu.

Maddison, 23, has five goals and three assists in the league this season and continues to impress since his £22m move from Norwich in June 2018 on a five-year deal.

The deadball specialist is set to see his £60,000-aweek salary rocket.

Turkish international Soyuncu, 23, is set for a new deal after barely putting a foot wrong since stepping up to replace Maguire after his summer move to Old Trafford.

Soyuncu has started every league game this season and is under contract until 2023 after signing from Freiburg for £19m in August 2018.
