COLIN Firth has split from his wife Livia after 22 years – but the pair have pledged to stay “united in their love for their children”.
The star announced the separation yesterday, almost two years after it emerged Livia, 50, had a fling with a childhood pal.
Firth, 59, vowed to stay friends with his ex, with whom he shares two sons, Matteo, 16, and Luca, 18.
A statement from their publicists said: “Colin and Livia Firth have separated.
“They maintain a close friendship and remain united in their love for their children. They kindly ask for privacy. There will be no further comment.”
It came to light in March last year that Livia was alleged to have had an affair with Marco Brancaccia during a split from her screen star husband in 2015.
When the Firths got back together they accused him of stalking them with a series of text messages.
He also sent an email to Colin, who famously played Mr Darcy in the
1995 BBC adaptation of
Pride And Prejudice, informing him of the fling.
At the time, a friend of the actor said: “This guy basically told Colin everything he had been doing with his wife for a year.”
But the Italian journalist denied he was a stalker.
He said: “After it ended in June 2016 I never called her again.
“I did send her two WhatsApp messages, one happy birthday [text message] and an email to Colin, the latter which I truly regret.”
