BELLA was top of the pups for favourite pooches’ names last year, a report has found.

Based on data from over 2million pet owners worldwide, Poppy was revealed as the second most-used moniker, with Alfie third.

The report by Rover. com also said old-fashioned human names are making a comeback as are canine classics such as Lassie and Spot.

Other popular names include our favourite tipples and TV shows, and some pooches have even been named politicians!

Kate Jaffe, Rover trend expert, said: “Dogs are considered fully fledged members of the family by nine out of 10 pet parents in the UK, so choosing a name for our canines can be as difficult as it is for our children.

“Our dogs and the names we give them are part of our self-expression, which is why we see such strong influence from the things that Brits love – from favourite foods to small screen stars.”
