Brady ready for wild Titans clash

- AMERICAN FOOTBALL with IAN WHITTELL

TOM BRADY must go into uncharted territory if he’s going to lead the New England Patriots to a successful Super Bowl defence.

The 42-year-old superstar quarterback could not guide his side past the Miami Dolphins in their final regular season game last week – a stunning 27-24 defeat that cost his team an automatic play-off spot.

The Patriots must now play in a wildcard play-off for the first time since 2009, at home to the Tennessee Titans on Saturday.

And they have never reached a Super Bowl by going through the extra wildcard round.

Brady said: “We’ve got to think about trying to win one game and not think about things other than that.

“We didn’t play the way we are capable, it cost us and we got beat. Now we have to play a lot better next week.

“We made too many bad mistakes. It was a great chance for us to not play next week and we didn’t take advantage it.”

The Dolphins defeat was a major shock and a huge blow for

Brady’s bid to win a seventh Super Bowl in his amazing career.

He is a free agent this summer and has insisted he wants to play on – even though he will be 43 by the start of next season – although it may not be with New England.

Tennessee booked their wildcard date with a 35-14 win last weekend over a Houston Texans side that knew it was already in the play-offs – they face the Buffalo Bills on Saturday.

Titans coach Mike Vrabel will lead a team into the play-offs for the first time – against a Patriots team with whom he won three Super Bowls in his playing days.

He said: “I’m not emotional. It’s about being focused on the Patriots.

“You’re basically walking into the viper’s den.”

On Sunday, the NFC wildcards see the New Orleans Saints host the Minnesota Vikings and the Seattle Seahawks visit the Philadelphia Eagles.
