Moyes is a happy Hammer

- ■ by HECTOR NUNNS

DAVID MOYES enjoyed the perfect return as West Ham boss.

The Scot was passed over for Manuel Pellegrini 19 months ago, after steering the Hammers to 13th as their interim boss.

But in his first game back, Moyes watched his new charges haul themselves clear of the drop zone.

The goals came from recalled captain Mark Noble (two), Sebastien Haller and Felipe Anderson as the Cherries were blitzed.

Moyes said: “I don’t think I could have had a better start.

“I’d love to take the credit but the players take it. We only had a day and a bit with them but they played well. Noble was incredible, he epitomises everything here.

“I felt it right away, having slipped into the bottom three earlier in the day. It was the first game, and I felt I

hadn’t had enough time to work with the players.

“But they were being brave on the ball, trying to regain confidence, trying to regain the trust from the crowd.

“They gave the crowd something, and got it back. We have so many players with ability. I’d been asking Felipe Anderson if he’s a Brazilian.

“All I’d said to him was, ‘Give us a Brazilian goal’. And he did.”

Cherries boss Eddie Howe admitted: “It probably is the toughest time we have had. It has been a really difficult run, and very tough with the sheer amount of injuries – now Josh King and Jack Stacey are out with hamstrings too.

“It is the first time we have been in the relegation zone for a long time – but that might be a good thing if it changes the mindset.”
