ALEX NEIL believes Norwich boss Daniel Farke is under more pressure than him as he prepares to face his successor.

Preston host the Premier League’s bottom club having fallen off the promotion pace following a disastrous holiday period that brought just two points from four games.

And Farke will be without injured striker Teemu Pukki, who is already a major doubt for next Saturday’s Premier League clash at Manchester United.

Neil, who managed City for two years and led them into the Premier League in 2015, claims expectations are greater for Farke than they are for him. The Preston boss said: “When you go in at Norwich, they want promotion and if you don’t get it, you aren’t going to be in the job very long.

“Once you get to the Premier League they want to stay up and if you come down, they want to get back up very quickly.

“If you are not showing signs of doing that, the likelihood is they will change over.

“Here at Preston, it wasn’t that long ago that the club was in the

League One.

“We’ve had to build steadily and for the majority of this season we have been in the top six. It is the first time that has happened for a quite a while. At the moment we are looking like we are finding it a little bit difficult to sustain.”

The Canaries have won only three times all season and just once in the last 16 league games, and Neil can sympathise with his successor.

He said: “Daniel is in the same position I was in when I was Norwich manager. Norwich are a self-sustaining club. That is difficult in the Premier League.

“When you compare them others spend in the Premier there is a big difference.

“Back in the days of having Chris Sutton playing for them and being in Europe, money wasn’t a big issue. Money now has a massive bearing on things.” Losing Pukki is a big blow and Farke said: “He has a little hamstring strain and is also struggling with his toe. I can’t predict if he’ll be available for the United game. Bournemouth the week after would be more realistic.” Teenager Adam Idah makes a rare start and with experienced duo Josip Drmic and Dennis Srbeny sidelined, he could also be needed at Old Trafford. Republic of Ireland Under-21 star Idah, 18, came on for the final moments of the 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace for a Premier League debut. His only other appearance had been in the Carabao Cup at Crawley. to what League,

EDDIE HOWE says scrapping with Luton for Football League survival will help him cope with Bournemouth’s crisis.

Eleven years ago Howe took charge of the Cherries for the first time with the south coast side 23rd in League Two.

He went on to mastermind a relegation escape at Luton’s expense.

The injury-hit Cherries have dropped into the Premier League relegation zone after a dismal run.

Howe, whose side face the Hatters today, said: “I really felt for Luton. They had some really hard years on the back of that relegation. They did not go out of business and managed to come back, so credit to the club for that.

“It is great to see both clubs back and in much healthier positions now.

“I always said that first season prepared me in so many good ways for what will come after.

“It was the ultimate pressure because the fate of the club hung in the balance. If you can handle that, you can handle other things.”
