UNLUCKY-in-love star Lewis Capaldi found musical joy at the BRIT Awards last night.

The Scot – dumped Island contestant Paige was a double winner.

He nabbed Best New Artist and Best Song awards for Someone You Loved, which he performed live.

Swigging a beer as he accepted his gong, ITV bosses muted him as he swore before the watershed.

Stormzy took Solo Male, while Album Of The Year went to rapper Dave for Psychodrama.

Host Jack Whitehall opened the event via video dressed in classic BRIT Awards outfits from past years – including Geri Halliwell’s Union Jack frock – but he soon quit joking to pay tribute to tragic Love Island host Caroline Flack.

Talent

He said: “Over the weekend we learned the awful news a member of the BRITs team took her own life. Caroline Flack was kind and loved and will be remembered.”

Ahead of the event there was controversy regarding the lack of nominated women.

But strong performances by Solo Female winner Mabel, Rising Star champ Celeste and US soul sensation Lizzo showed the breadth of female talent available.

There was also a show-stopping performance by International Female winner Billie Eilish singing her new James Bond song No Time To Die, accompanied by The Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr.

Rapper Dave sang Black at the piano while images of headlines about how young black people are represented in the media were screened above him.

But it was left to 75-year-old Rod Stewart to close the awards with a finale of I Don’t Want To Talk About It and Stay With Me.
