Spurs boss is left with Mour problems as Son ruled out

- ■ by MIKE WALTERS

JOSE MOURINHO says Heung-min Son’s broken arm has left Tottenham dangling from a balcony – and the stairs have been kicked away.

Without his two best strikers for the Champions League clash with Red Bull Leipzig tonight, Mourinho looked desperate.

But the Spurs head coach roused his squad with the rallying call: “Let’s go with a smile and let’s go strong.”

After England captain Harry Kane was crocked by a long-term hamstring injury, 16-goal Son’s unlucky break has robbed Mourinho of his two top scorers.

And he now feels Spurs are hanging on for dear life.

The Special One said: “When we arrived we were on the minus 12 floor. We got to the stairs and we started climbing.

“But immediately, at the beginning, the stairs broke. So we were in trouble and we were finding a way to try to get ourselves up.

“We found a way, we started climbing – lots of work, lots of effort and we kept going.

“And after 11 steps, when we are arriving on the fourth floor – which is where we wanted to arrive – somebody came and took the stairs away.

“Now we are in trouble. We are with our arms on the balcony on the fourth floor and we have only two options.

“One is to give up, fall and normally die because it’s the fourth floor.

Another way is to fight with what we have – no stairs, but arms.

“So we are going to be on that balcony, fighting with everything that we have. There is only one possibility of help in this incredible fight we have ahead of us – our public.

“We have no strikers, no market, no players, nothing. The only help we can have now, especially playing at home, is our crowd.

“So the only thing I ask is for the Spurs fans to be behind the players because they deserve it.” Mourinho’s despair at losing Kane and Son could be eased by the return of Erik Lamela and new signing Steven Bergwijn’s promising start.

And he warned Leipzig – and Saturday’s opponents Chelsea – that Tottenham would not lie down easily.

Mourinho said: “In some periods, I was worried about not having attacking options on the bench – now I don’t have attacking options on the pitch.

“We know that it’s very unfair for the players after such hard work because they recovered the 11 points to fourth position in the Premier League.

“And when we arrive in this moment full of hope, very enthusiastic with that challenge in the Premier League, knockout stages of the Champions League, last 16 in the FA Cup, we put ourselves in this privileged situation.

“Then came the bad news. The first thing was to break our hearts and the second thing was to break our team, but we have to recover from broken hearts and we have to fight with the team we have.

“So let’s go with a smile, let’s go strong. I’m not going to give up and probably opponents they are thinking, ‘Now is the time to kill them.’

“I understand that way but we everything.

“I don’t think it’s going to be easy for Leipzig or for Chelsea to play against us.” why they think are going to give
