Attacks ‘ignored by cops’

-

NINETEEN women allegedly battered and sexually assaulted by their police officer partners accused forces of turning a blind eye.

The Centre for Women’s Justice has now filed a “super complaint” against the police.

A study found only 3.9% of abuse complaints against officers resulted in convictions, significantly lower than if the victim had been a member of the public.

Some victims claimed officer husbands and boyfriends had them arrested when they tried to complain.

The “super complaints” system allows groups to raise issues about harmful patterns or trends in policing.

The CWJ said there was a “culture within the police service that condones and trivialises violence against women”.
