Officer’s killing: 2 admit raid plot
TWO teens accused of murdering a policeman who was dragged behind a car while probing a theft yesterday admitted plotting to steal a quad bike.
Pc Andrew Harper died from multiple injuries.
The pair, who are both 17 and cannot be named for legal reasons, admitted conspiring to steal the bike at the Old Bailey.
They each deny 28-yearold Pc Harper’s murder and manslaughter.
Henry Long, 18, has admitted the officer’s manslaughter near the village of Sulhamstead, Berks, in August last year but denies murder.
Judge Mr Justice Edis warned jurors the case would be “distressing” and urged them to take a “fairminded and clear-sighted” view of the evidence.
He said there was “no doubt” that Pc Harper died “because he tried to help in the pursuit of these defendants who were in the course of trying to escape after stealing a quad bike”.
The trial continues.
