Del Boy not me, says Jim
Oscar-winning actor Jim Broadbent says his “greatest contribution to British culture” was turning down the part of Del Boy Trotter.
Sir David Jason landed the Only Fools And Horses role in 1981 and he became one the country’s mostloved comic characters.
Jim said: “I was offered it but I was doing a Mike Leigh play, so I couldn’t do it. I consider that my greatest contribution to British culture, allowing David Jason to play Del Boy.
“If I’d done it, we wouldn’t have had his Del Boy and I’d have opted out after season two.” ★
