F1 Lew swerves art fight

-

LEWIS Hamilton has avoided a clash with a group of artists over plans for a new summerhouse.

The six-times Formula 1 champion lodged two sets of plans for his £18million Victorian mansion.

The race ace, worth £130m, wanted to extend his London property and also rebuild a garden outbuilding.

Neighbours argued that sunlight will be blocked out by the garden plans.

The Pembroke Studios group objected to the local council in Kensington.

Millionaire artist David Hockney owns one of the artist spaces at Pembroke Studios, but it is not known whether he was one of those who objected.

In their letter, they said: “As working artists who depend on natural daylight, our working and living conditions would be seriously disturbed by the plan. Light is an essential condition of art.”

Hamilton’s agents have withdrawn the garden plans, while Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Council is yet to decide on the separate house extension plans.
