Mccann sights on big guns

MOLLY MCCANN insists a dominant win over Ashlee Evans-smith will put her on course to face the flyweight division’s elite.

The former Cage Warriors 125lb champion will throw down with ‘Rebel Girl’ a week on Saturday at UFC Fight Night 171 at London’s O2 Arena.

Liverpool’s Mccann will enter the bout on a three-fight win streak and is confident another impressive performance will finally see her name enter the flyweight rankings.

“I believe this is the last test,” Mccann said.

“I believe if I can negate this girl, put on an unreal performance and get a finish, it’s going to speak volumes.

“I’ve had five fights in the UFC and three wins in eight months. So if I get this one, it’ll be four wins in one year and one week.

“So I genuinely believe I deserve a good crack of the whip at the top 15 and top 10.

“I’m not bothered about how long it takes for me to get to the top. But let’s just make it fair ground and give me a good go.”

Although she has her sights set on facing the best the flyweight division has to offer, Mccann is refusing to underestimate the experienced Evans

Smith. The 29-year-old added: “I’d like to be established in the top 10 come the end of the year and looking at being a contender for the title.

“However, I’ve just got to get this one out the way and then I can focus on that. But I’m not looking past Ashlee at all.”

Evans-smith, 32, has only fought twice in the last 22 months and her inactivity has left Mccann questioning her commitment to the sport.

She said: “We’ll see how much fight she’s got left in her. She’s an unreal athlete, she knows how to fight and she can take it into the later rounds and slug it out.

“Is she ready to go to the levels that I’m ready to go to get a win? I’m not quite sure about that. But that’s what we’re going to find out.”
