Lys is all for Senegal
LYS MOUSSET is ready to turn his back on France and pledge his international future to Senegal.
The Sheffield United striker, who cost £10m from Bournemouth last July, was born in Le Havre and has been capped by the French at Under-21 level.
But he wants to follow in the footsteps of his dad, former Senegal star Emilien Mendy, and represent the African nation.
He could be handed a call-up for their double header in the African Nations Cup against Guinea Bissau at the end of this month.
The 24-year-old (inset) said: “I have always been attracted to Senegal.
“I support them like crazy and if they called me, I would say yes. I qualify to play for Senegal because that’s the country of my father’s birth. “Their head coach, Aliou Cisse, spoke with me and everything went very well.
“If a call-up were to happen, I would be delighted. I’ll look carefully at the next list and hope I’ll be there.”
Mousset, who is the Blades’ joint top scorer with five goals, added: “I’ve been told the coach has been following me for a long time. “Senegal has been in my mind but first I wanted to experience the joy of being successful with my club.”
