A POLICE officer suffered a “completely senseless” death “in the line of duty”, a jury heard.
Pc Andrew Harper was dragged at 42mph after his ankles became lassoed in a tow rope trailing from an armed gang’s getaway car.
Driver Henry Long snaked from side-to-side for a mile on a country lane, it was alleged.
The 28-year-old officer’s uniform was torn off, leaving him naked apart from his boots, socks and “some shredded remnants” of his trousers.

QC, prosecuting, told an Old Bailey jury: “This was a completely senseless killing of a young police officer in the line of duty.’’
Pc Harper died after he and his colleague responded to the reported theft of a £10,000 quad bike from a house in Bradfield Southend, Berks.
The prosecutor said: “It was a decision that was to cost Andrew Harper his life.’’
Long, 18, and two 17-yearold boys, who cannot be named for legal reasons, deny murder on August 15 last year. Long has admitted Pc Harper’s manslaughter. All three admit conspiring to steal the quad bike.
