Group is facing redundo
A GROUP of 46 warehouse workers have won a £160,000 Euromillions lottery prize at the “perfect time” as they are facing redundancy.
Supervisor Craig Rowland only started the syndicate last month to bringing staff together as they are set to lose their jobs this summer.
But lotto celebrations are on ice for the moment due to coronavirus.
Craig was out for a work’s curry when his phone rang with his excited syndicate pals asking him to check the ticket.
He said: “We were all gobsmacked but we didn’t want to get too excited.”
He called lottery organisers Camelot the next morning by which time the syndicate’s Facebook Messenger group was buzzing.
Craig added: “We are all gutted about the closing of the warehouse but the win is great news for a great bunch of people who I know will all find new jobs. The win couldn’t have come at a better time.”
The staff, who work at Crystal Martin warehouse in Sutton-inashfield, Notts, matched five main numbers plus one Lucky Star to win £159,609.40. They each take home just under £3,500.
Craig added: “We have a giant bottle of champagne which has enough for a glass for every syndicate member but it is important we all keep a safe distance right now.
“We will keep washing our hands for the time being and save our celebration for later.” Warehouse worker Denise Marshall, 59, from Mansfield, said: “It’s great timing, everybody is so pleased.
“I will be treating my four grandchildren.” ●
A MILLIONAIRE lottery winner who carried on working as a midwife is being recognised in an exhibition to celebrate the life and work of the founder of modern nursing, Florence Nightingale.
Ruth Breen, 40, of Wigan, Greater Manchester, in 2014 won £1m in the Euromillions UK Millionaire Raffle.
The display at the Florence Nightingale Museum in London, now closed due to coronavirus, can be seen online at florence-nightingale.co.uk/nightingale-2020.
