Queen ready to rule at Monmore
■
QUEEN JESSIEJ (6.49) is the latest in a long line of homebred talent from Liz and Rab Mcnair’s academy and gets the vote in the richest race of the night at Monmore, the £12,500-to-the-winner Ladbrokes Puppy Derby Final.
A daughter of three-time GBGB Dam of the Year Skate On, herself a cracking early paced sort for the Mcnairs, Queen Jessiej posted the fastest time in last week’s semi-finals and again has strong leadability claims and could make all.
She is joined in the final by brother King Drake to give the owning KSS Syndicate two chances of success, while John Mullins is also doubly handed with the bookends Swift Lettuce and Fantastical.
John won the Midland Puppy Derby in 2007 with Blonde Dino.
Sheffield’s Rpgtvcovered Steel City Cup Final card features four open races with the main event an absolute cracker with a tough draw for in-form and unbeaten favourite Headford Ranger (above) giving the rest of the field a chance.
Kevin Hutton’s dog has been flying at the Owlerton venue, but needs to cope with a trap five draw, not to mention the pace of Ballymac Ambrose (Bev Heaton), Lenson Whelan (Patrick Janssens) and
Volcanic Reef (Heather Dimmock) inside.
However, it might be DEADLY EXPERT
(9.18, below) is the best-drawn of the field and Laurence Tuffin’s brilliant record in the race might be preserved in all-theway style. Laurence trained Tynwald Baz to win the Steel City in 2017 having finished second the previous year.
Deadly Expert, just the trainer’s third Steel City entry, is an improving sort with four races and two wins on the card and can strike in the £10,000 decider, while best of the supporting open bets might be the welldrawn
BALLYMAC CONTE
(6.39) in the sprint.
■ CENTRAL PARK have struck a sponsorship deal with Colossus Bets. The firm, a former TV Trophy sponsor, was due to back the Kent Silver Salver but after the suspension of open-racing will now support a series of kennel sweepstakes events.
These graded competitions will be staged across Monday and Tuesday’s Siscovered cards with the finals on the Rpgtv-broadcast programme on Sunday.
