A DOG owner was rescued after trying to save her huge pet when it fell over a 300ft cliff.

Louise Bull-tyagi was walking 10st Newfoundland Baloo when it plunged over the edge. The animal came to rest 50ft down, and Louise scrambled down to her – only to get stuck as well.

The 34-year-old “knew straight away I was in trouble” – but was saved by her What3words map-finder app. The programme works by pinpointing a person’s position down to a 3m square.

Louise called emergency services and gave them her location. Coastguard teams and firefighters then quickly rescued her and Baloo. The drama happened at Orcombe Point, near Exmouth, Devon on Sunday morning.

Louise said: “Baloo was off her lead and as we went round the bend she just went straight for the edge of the cliff. I wasn’t able to control her and stupidly thought I would be able to go and get her.

“I don’t know what I was thinking – was never going to be able to do that!

“I knew straight away I was in trouble and called the Coastguard to give them my location. I can’t even express my thanks. I’m so grateful they rescued me and Baloo. I’m very embarrassed but can’t express how wonderful they are.”

Terry Hoar, from Beer coastguard, said they were able to find Louise straight away and rescue her. He added: “The dog was more tricky because of its size, so we had to use to ropes to drag her up.”

Louise, from Birmingham, was in Dorset helping her parents, who are selfisolating. She added: “Baloo is totally fine and completely chilled out about it now, it’s as if it never happened.”
