Foolish Jack asks fans not to make the same mistake
JACK GREALISH admits he was stupid to ignore the Government’s coronavirus lockdown.
The £50m-rated midfielder went to a mate’s flat and then allegedly crashed his £80,000 Range Rover into a number of parked cars – just hours after urging fans on social media to stay indoors.
Apologising publicly on his social media accounts, Grealish said: “Hi everybody, I just want to do a quick video message to say how deeply sorry I am by what’s happened.
“I know it’s a tough time for everyone at the moment being locked indoors for so
■ long. I just got a call off a friend asking to go around to his. I stupidly agreed to do so.
“I don’t want anyone to make the same mistake that I have so obviously I urge everybody to stay at home and follow the rules and guidelines for what we’ve been asked to do.” Photos showed the midfielder standing next to the damaged vehicle in a hoodie and shorts. The 24-year-old has been fined by the club but it is not yet clear whether he will face any action from the police who were called to the scene. His apology was carefully worded to only say sorry for flouting lockdown regulations.
The club said in a statement: “Aston Villa is deeply disappointed that one of our players ignored the Government’s guidance on staying at home during the Coronavirus crisis. “Jack Grealish has accepted that his decision to leave his house was wrong and entirely unnecessary. “The player will be disciplined and fined with the proceeds donated to The University Hospitals Charity in Birmingham.”
