IONAIRE? COURT CASE BUT LEAVES A MYSTERY...

frightening it would have been.” Sian and co-star Matthew Macfadyen, who plays the major, met the couple and found them “lovely”.

She adds: “They were really sweet and really thrilled that Matthew and I were playing them.

“It was really nice to meet them but we were careful to make sure we weren’t too influenced in either direction. “Diana was painted as this Lady Macbeth character but I don’t think that’s who she is. “She struck me as an introvert and a nerd, and someone who is actually quite shy and definitely naive. “She just radiates this sweetness and is incredibly quiet, and Charles commands the room. Diana and

Charles come across as a strong couple. They have stuck together through all this.”

While Sian admits she never doubted their guilt at the time, meeting the real couple did make her think differently.

“At the time I was completely embroiled in it – open-and-shut case, no question about it,” she says.

“I didn’t consider the human cost.

Replica

“I wanted to be sensitive to them but I wanted to tell the story and be as truthful as I can.”

The Quiz production team built a replica of the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? set and recreated every little detail to help the cast get the feel of really being on the show – right down to the nerve-jangling music.

“That music is designed to get into your bones and it works,” says Sian. “It really makes you feel tense. That’s just the beauty of how it was all designed in the first place – it hooks you in.”

While Sian says the show “raises a lot of questions” she is also hoping it will make people think about the humans behind the headlines.

She says: “There are humans on the other side of these scandals, and whatever you think of them you’ve got to take care of each other.

“Maybe one day we harassing people for entertainment.”

But while she might be playing a quiz fanatic, don’t ask Sian to be on your team any time soon.

She laughs: “Quizzes are not my thing.

“I enjoy a quiz but I don’t think I’m very good at them.

“My general knowledge rubbish.”
