SERGE AND DESTROY

Striker aiming to smash more records with City

- ■ by DAVID ANDERSON

SERGIO AGUERO wants to continue “making history” with Manchester City.

Aguero is already City’s record scorer with 254 goals and the Premier League’s most prolific foreign marksman with 180.

The Argentina striker wants to end his career back home at his first club Independiente, who would love to re-sign him, but he insists he still has goals to achieve with the Blues.

“I want to continue in the Premier League making history,” he said. “I want to continue growing even more and this is my opportunity.”

Aguero, who will be 33 when his City deal expires next June, claims he is not thinking about his long-term future because of the coronavirus pandemic.

“For now, I’m not thinking about what to do,” he told TYC Sports in Argentina.

“With all this, the clubs are having problems. The first thing is to end this season and hit everything next.”

Aguero has been repeatedly overlooked for awards, despite his phenomenal goalscoring record and feels City’s failure to win the Champions League has been a factor.

But he believes he does not need any accolades to know he has had a great career with City.

“Every player wants to win the Ballon d’or but the Champions League has a lot to do with it,” he said. “My best year, last year, we won four titles but we had no luck in Europe.

“I was not nominated even in the first 10 and that’s because you need more.

“I think I’m there and not because I say so, but because of the years I have had with City and my numbers.”

City lost on away goals to Tottenham in last season’s Champions League quarter-finals and Aguero claims the margins in Europe are very fine.

“Even if you play well for 85 minutes, if you have one bad moment you are out,” he said.
