Beau’s creator dies, 72

-

ARTIST Andrew Christine who drew the Daily Star’s legendary Beau Peep cartoon has died aged 72.

The comic strip charting the North African desert exploits of bungling Brit Beau was so popular that it ran in the newspaper for 38 years.

Andrew’s creative partner Roger Kettle, who wrote the dialogue, said: “Andrew was simply one of the greatest strip cartoonists around.

“He would save some of my less-than-hilarious scripts by creating the most perfect facial expressions on the characters.

“Not only that but his full-colour cartoons for magazines were true works of art.

“He was a brilliant artist and a brilliant friend.’’

Beau’s success prompted sister title The Mirror to ask the Dundee-based duo to produce another cartoon strip called A Man Called Horace which ran for 26 years.

Andrew is survived by daughters Kara and Lyn and son Lyle.
