Hammers fans bid to Zoom in

- ■ by TONY BANKS

WEST HAM fans are in talks with the club about showing their faces on Zoom on the London Stadium’s big screens to boost players in behindclosed-doors games.

The Hammers, along with several other clubs, have rejected the idea of having cardboard cutout fans once games restart.

But now a group of supporters have come up with the idea of showing fans’ faces on screens during games as a Zoom conference in a bid to provide at least some atmosphere.

Season ticket holder Nigel Kahn told the claretandhugh website: “Football without fans is nothing, so why not bring as many as possible into the stadium for players to see? We could show the players support even though we’re not there – but we are behind them visually in person.”

Supporters would not be able to watch the game on Zoom as that would contravene broadcasting rules but their faces would be shown on the screen via their laptop.

Another fan said: “The club would publish a Zoom meeting address and fans would dial in.

“You could easily get 1,000 little faces on the big screens – it would be like a mosaic effect.

“The actual images would be tiny so there would not be much detail but players would be able to see them.

“We are talking to the club and we hope they think the idea is practical.”
